Rakuten is a Japanese online e-commerce company based in Tokyo and was founded in 1997 by Hiroshi Mikitani (Hiroshi Mikitani).

Rakuten is often referred to as “The Amazon of Japan”.
Rakuten is owner of Pinterest and Kobo
Rakuten in Japan has a widespread online shopping online and competes with Amazon and Yahoo, but wants to expand its presence outside its home country.
The company is already the owner of the popular Pinterest site and Canadian electronic book reader Kobo.
